Even though it may feel as though we’ve been suffering through freezing winter weather for months now, it’s really only just begun! Although that thought is a bit depressing, what better way to brighten up cold, dreary winter days than with a great nail polish color that you wouldn’t normally be able to rock in the spring and summer months?
Below, I’ve listed the top four hottest nail polish trends for winter 2010/2011, to give you some inspiration for new shades to try! Read on to see them all.
1. Glittery Metallic

How can you not be completely taken with these gorgeous, glittery tones? Metallics have been spotted everywhere in fashion this winter season, but right now, it’s all about wearing these hues on your nails.
In my opinion, these shades are the best of both worlds: they bring the gorgeous sparkle of your favorite jewelry to your nails, allowing you to rock some bling without piling on the pieces. Plus, in these dark winter months, seeing a hint of sparkle as you glance down at your hands can give you a much-needed pick-me-up. Put blizzards and ice aside this winter and choose to sparkle instead!
2. Greige/Mushroom/Taupe

This is probably my favorite of all the nail trends this season. The “greige” (a mixture of gray and beige) nail polish trend began this past summer, continued into the fall, and is still super popular this winter. This trend just won’t die, and for that, polish addicts are eternally grateful.
These colors are beautiful blends of taupe, brown, gray, and sometimes purple. They seem to be universally flattering, and are truly the new it neutral. Plus, they go with every outfit and are suitable for work or class during they day, while transitioning flawlessly into night. These polish hues are definitely here to stay!
3. Super Dark, Almost Black

Okay, we know that dark nails are nothing new for the chillier months of the year, but what’s different this year is that those dark colors are super dark, and crazily close to black. The most-worn ones seem to be deep plum, dark graphite, and rich navy.
There are so many ways to wear this trend: You can basically pick any color and then find its deepest version! The shades above not your style? Why not try a deep red wine color, or a blue-green variation? If you’re feeling extra crazy, spring for some glitter or iridescence! This trend is incredibly versatile and that’s what makes it so great.
4. Icy Blues

This is probably the most unexpected trend for this winter season, but it’s surprisingly awesome. While blue may not be the most popular nail color on the market, this season it’s making a strong comeback.
You guys probably all know that Chanel has fast become a leader in the nail polish world, and, as usual, they can be credited with starting this trend, when they released “Riva”, one of our top beauty products for a winter wonderland. Ever since Chanel created this icy robin’s egg blue with subtle shimmer, it and its duplicates have been spotted everywhere – from magazines and runways, to my college campus.
Overall, ice blue nail polish is a fun and unpredictable look that will definitely set you apart from the crowd. I mean, how fun is it to wear a bright, shimmery color in the dreary winter months? Break the rules, and wear one of these blues next time!

Winter Fashion Tricks
As winter approaches, it’s out with the shorts and mini dresses and in with the Ugg boots, woolly hats and scarves. Or is it? The cold weather isn’t an excuse to wear a lifeless, baggy jumper and hide behind hundreds of layers. Instead, embrace the winter season with colorful hats and gloves, with cosy, yet stylish fashion trends.
You may find it hard to believe, but with the right accessories, you can still wear some of your summer outfits. So if you are shopping on internet stores such as ASOS and Very, while you dip in and out of fun games of Cheeky Bingo, why not dig out those flowery summer dresses and skirts, and simply read this blog post to discover how you can incorporate summer trends into your winter wardrobe.
Dresses – Jumper dresses are fashionable, casual and cosy; perfect for those cold winter days. Some dresses of this style can be baggy and limp, so why not add a feminine touch by wearing a tight waist belt? This will emphasise your curves and give the loose dress definition and shape. In addition, add some chunky long necklaces and bangles, to add a sparkle against the plain wool.
Summer Dresses – Believe it or not, it isn’t time to put away those summer dresses. If you have a summery mini dress, why not try wearing it with a pair of thick, flower patterned tights with knee-high boots? In addition, instead of covering your pretty dress with a big jumper, wear a tight long sleeved top underneath your dress, which will keep you warm without covering your outfit.
Skirts – Denim mini skirts can be worn all year round, providing you accessorize well. Many girls wear their denim skirts with colorful sun-tops, flip flops and shades during the summer. Pantone's Fall 2011−The Art of Color− Sensible and Spirited!

“Designers take a painterly approach to fall 2011 by artfully combining bright colors with staple neutrals, reminiscent of how an artist would construct a stunning work of art,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Much like a painter's masterpiece, there is a certain romance to this season's palette.”
Bamboo, a surprising fall hue, brings a warm, exotic flavor to the season. Like a filtered sunset on the waning days of fall, Bamboo is a standout yellow with a subtle green undertone. This dappled shade pairs dramatically with several of the top 10, including Phlox, Teal and Honeysuckle.
Radiant Emberglow, a traditional autumnal tone, emanates the warmth of a glowing fire – the perfect panacea to the crisp air of fall. Combine Emberglow with Coffee Liqueúr for a classic look, or with Honeysuckle for something a bit more retro. Add a spark with shoes or a handbag in Emberglow, or perhaps a patterned scarf combining purpled Phlox or Deep Teal.
Offering a sense of continuity from spring, dynamic Honeysuckle adds a bold punctuation point. This playful, reddish pink works with any other color in the palette, especially fall staples like Coffee Liqueúr and Nougat. To add some intensity, pair it with complementary Bamboo. Flirtatious and festive, Honeysuckle produces a healthy glow – great for cosmetics and holiday soirees.
Phlox, a magical, deep purple with a hint of mystery, is an outstanding statement when worn on its own. Add Phlox to this season's neutrals to create a bit of drama, or combine it with Cedar, Deep Teal or Coffee Liqueúr for something extraordinary. To add even more excitement, pair Phlox with Honeysuckle or Bamboo against a Cedar background – a combination inspired by Mother Nature.
